well...i have numerous friends who lately have been going from blonde to brunette. let me tell you it looks really good the first few days or maybe even week or two if they are lucky. after that it kind of fades, the starts to show through, and even a few of my friends hair has actually looked brownish green; not so cute. lol. but i would reccomend getting a box and doing it yourself or having a friend do it for you, the few friends who's color faded after a week or two got it done professionally and it wasn't as dark as they wanted it to be in the first place. one of my friends got it done twice professionally, was not happy with it, decided to use a box and although it still is faded a little bit, it looked a lot better than when she got it done professionally. i'm not saying don't go and get it done professionally, by all means give it a try, but doing it yourself from a box is cheaper. just make sure if a friend does it that they really really read the directions first or they have done it before!!good luck!!=)
