I have dark brown hair with golden blond highlights. Can I dye my hair black at home?

So, I have dark brown hair with thick golden blond highlights that I hate, but have delt with for more than 6 months. Can I dye my hair a "cool" black without the highlights making a large difference? Also, does anyone have any tips for dying at home? Thank you!

You can do it at home but you may have to do it more than once (NOT IN THE SAME DAY) dye it and if your blonde still shows up light condition really well and wait at least 4 days to do it again. If you do it back to back it will cause your hair to become gummy like .... damaged bad!

The black dye will completely cover all of your different colored hair. Don't worry.

If you're gonna color your hair then go to a salon. Its more costly but in the end its worth it. Home hair dye kits usually cause a lot of damage. Try finding a salon that does something called "shades." Its a healthier approach to coloring hair.

I used a pure black (I can't really remember the name) and it came out almost blue/black. It reminded me of Asian hair, so black and shiny that it reflects blue off it. I don't know if that's what you're looking for... If you don't want that, go with a regular or soft black color. It should make your hair all one color, doing away with your highlights.

When doing it at home (which I've done more times than I can count) just follow the directions and watch out for drips. I usually use an old flannel shirt, so it unbuttons rather than having to take it off your head, and an old towel. Good luck, and remember, if you mess up, it can always be fixed, so no worries. :-)
