I would advise you against it, because black dye is always obvious/fake looking, and its extremely hard to get it out of your hair should you want to lighten it again. But if you want to do it, you should go to Sally's and pick out your shade you want, most black dyes have a green or blue base (it will say on the bottle) but you are definitely gonna need to do a base color fill first. They sell them there also. You can use a color fill first, and leave it on there the full 20 minutes by the bottle's directions. The color fill is a protein filler and it will not damage your hair, it deposits the color first so that the toner you picked will grab onto the hair and come out the intended color. If you use a color fill you will not have to process the hair twice and inflict all that damage. I took my hair from platinum blonde to very dark brown in one color process this way. Without using it you can end up with a shade that isn't what you wanted (i have seen dark dyes go gray and even green on blonde hair).

use a temporary first to see if you like it (blonde to black is a big change) then if you like it use garnier fructris (thats what I use for everything hair related only i cant spell it...lol)

two processes

first apply semi-permanent red/orange (Ronald Mc Donald)

then you can put the black on top after you have washed and towel dried your hair.

You must fill in the hair with red first because otherwise you will get some crazy shade of dark gray/green/blue/etc..

go to a beauty supply store. someone there should be able to help you pick out a color. dyes are labeled in terms of numbers. a 1 is the darkest you can get- pure black. i don't suggest pitting a 1 in your hair because it is IMPOSSible to get out. a 2 or 3 can look pretty dark so i stay stick with one of those.

Going from blonde to black is a huge change. I would go to a store that sells wigs and try on one with a style close to the one you have now in black and see if you could live with that. If you like it book an appointment with a salon and get it done there. With a drugstore dye kit so many things can go wrong if everything is not done correctly. If you don't have the money and have to go with the store bought option, then ask a friend who has dyed her hair before you start to help you. I have used on my hair the Revlon Colorist: expert color and glaze system on my hair and it turned out great. (Keep in mind I used the dark brown to get rid of all the blonde highlights in my hair to emphasis the dark brown I had naturally.) Good Luck and I hope everything turns out great!
